  • Who Am I? The French Doctor Behind the Diet

    Hello! My name is Dr. Jean-Michel Cohen. I am a well-regarded nutrition expert in my native France, where I frequently appear on television and my books become instant best-sellers.

    It all started with my very first book, Savoir Maigrir in 2003. The title means “learn how to lose weight,” and I set the straight facts on nutrition, so that losing weight can be so simple that it becomes a part of your daily life. No tricks or gimmicks, just the truth!

    I studied nutrition at the Université Paris-Diderot and completed my thesis in 1983, and at the same time, I also worked as a consultant at the Braun-Bruneau Laboratories. I was awarded the French National Order of Merit in 2002, and I am also currently a board member of the Global Stevia Institute.

    I also practice from my clinic in Paris, where my patients include some of France's VIPs. But now, through the Internet, I am bringing you the Parisian Diet so you too can benefit from my expertise.

    The Parisian Diet is based on the principles I set Savoir Maigrir, and I will go more in depth into this in my next blog entry.

  • The Pleasure Diet

    In France, we say “bon appétit!” to greet someone to have a good meal.

    That's why I named my weight loss coaching program the Parisian Diet, and I do not mean it as a paradox.

    I'm sure that many of you have tried to lose weight before by following some diet, only to give up after a few weeks. Why? It just wasn't FUN, was it?

    I believe that for you to stick to a weight loss diet, it has to be fun. Who wants to live through torture, such as avoiding an entire food group completely or counting calories constantly?

    In the Parisian Diet, I stress the importance of enjoying your food. Unlike other diets, food is not viewed as the enemy, but it can be a source of pleasure.

    I will present all this in an easy to understand manner, that I trust you can understand! You will not need to memorize any tables or formulas, but I hope that you will take all these important facts on nutrition to heart.

    I am confident that the Parisian Diet will be the last diet you'll ever need, as it teaches you healthy habits that you can keep with you for life to stay healthy and keep the excess weight off. Healthy eating will be instinctive, a part of your daily life.

  • 5 Tips on How to Be Happy While on a Diet

    Bonjour !

    I know it's Friday, so many of you have weekend plans. That doesn't mean you have to suffer just because you're on a diet!

    Like I said in my last entry, a diet is a lifestyle. 50% of your efforts are psychological, while 25% is the actual routine or diet regimen you've been asked to follow, and the remaining 25% constitutes actual physical activity.

    On the Parisian Diet, I encourage the pleasure in eating as we motivate one another to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few simple tips I like to give when I am asked how dieting can be refreshing:

    1.    Keep a social life. Just because you're on a diet doesn't mean you need to turn down every invitation. It's important to keep a social life!

    2.    Read carefully. Eating out? Before you order the first thing on the menu, learn to take your time through each item and choose well.

    3.    Pack a lunch. If you're following a regimen, pack your lunch for work the night before to avoid grabbing take out or eating far too much than what's required.

    4.    Dinner detox. Had too much to eat for the day? Prepare a soup with 2 eggs (w/o the yolks) and yogurt with 0% fat for dinner.

    5.    Allow yourself a treat. Suppressing a need will make you want it more and more. If you really want to, then take a bite. I would recommend 2 squares of 70% dark chocolate per day to help soothe the sweet tooth.

    My name is Michelle, I am 37 years old and have three children. I was suffering from stage 2 obesity and thyroid problems in addition to the weight I put on from my pregnancies.
